The windows are down, soft rock plays on the radio, and there's a takeaway coffee cup in my hand as we cross town. Most girls probably want some cutesy shit like a picnic in the park, a candlelit dinner for two, or something extravagant. Not this girl; a trip to the gun range is an easy way to my heart. "What made you come up with this?" I ask as he drives the SUV.

"It was actually Axel's idea."

"Axel's," I repeat in surprise, blinking at him as he nods.

"Yeah, he fucking owed me after he got your bike from the Reapers." My lips clamp shut, not wanting to draw attention to the fact that he's clearly still not over that. "I'd say someone who cared about you would recommend it, wouldn't you?" He's prying, but his friend is as troubled as I am, and I'm not commenting on it at all. That will only lead to hurt and heartache on my end.

The SUV rolls to a stop, and I look out the windshield to see the gun range, so instead of offering him a response, I quickly jump down, coffee still in hand, and rush for the door.

I can hear Gray's footsteps right behind me, but I don't wait for him as I step inside. The familiar smell of gunpowder and lead fills my nose as I scan my eyes over the rows of guns lined up behind the glass cases on the wall. The shelves have all the ammunition you could dream of, but since these fuckers in town are always after a free weapon, the good stuff is out of reach.

"Scar, is that you?"

My head whips around to the counter, and I grin. "Colin, it's been too long."

He beckons me closer with a crook of his finger, just like he used to, and I hurry toward him. "What brings my favorite girl out here?" he asks, glancing over my shoulder and I follow his line of sight.

"I'm being treated to some time at the range." I wag my eyebrows at him, and he chuckles.

"Do you want me to clear everybody out?" Colin asks as Gray comes to a stop beside me. The men shake hands, and Gray frowns at me.

"You two know each other?"

"She's the best gal to ever walk through those doors," Colin declares, pointing at me, then he heads toward the side door that leads to the shooting gallery. "Potentially the greatest ever," he adds with a wink before disappearing.

It seems I didn't need to answer for him to clear the space out. He's so used to this being the case that it's second nature at this point.

"I feel like I’m missing something." Gray places his hand on the small of my back, making me shiver as I turn to face him properly.

"Colin's place was about the only spot I was allowed to go. When I was a child, I would be put in the trunk of a car and driven out here, but when I got a bit older, I was eventually able to come down here on my bike.
